This past Saturday, members of the Philadelphia Public League Wrestling program competed in the 2024 PPL Individual Tournament. Jayden Horton-Mims, a junior from Imhotep Charter High School, set a new state record (32.92s) cracking the 38 year old record for the fastest 300 meter dash held by fellow Public League athlete William Reed (33.19s). Audenried’s Nasiaah Russell has been ‘dominating’ in her freshman campaign
With their 2023 win over Imhotep Charter and first ever PPL Girls Basketball Championship Title, Audenried Charter has big aspirations for a repeat in 2024. An already powerful lineup spearheaded by reigning MVP and Division 1 prospect Shayla Smith and fellow senior Aniyah Howard, Audenried may have found a stalwart Center in freshman Nasiaah Russell. With the College signing process underway, the PPL looks to many of its high-caliber athletes as they make their decision on where to continue their academic and athletic career. One such individual, Demitrius Jones a Senior at Parkway Northwest, received some extra motivation from a teammate which would ultimately lead to Jones’ offer from Cornell.
