Souleymane Diarra surpassed all expectations at the District XII AAA Wrestling Championships.
Souleymane finished in second place at the Public League Championships on February 12th. At the Philadelphia Public League Tournament Souleymane was presented the Larry Imgrund Award, an award that is given to the wrestler that exemplifies the highest level of dedication and leadership. On February 26th the District XII Wrestling Championships took place at St. Joe’s Prep. Souleymane entered the tournament as the 5th seed in the 172 weight class. At the completion of wrestling, Souleymane stood on the podium as the 172 weight class champion.
At the conclusion of the tournament as the Champions of all the weight classes were being photographed it was announced that Souleymane Diarra has been selected as the Outstanding Wrestler. The coaches of the Philadelphia Public League and Philadelphia Catholic League are to nominate three wrestlers from the tournament worthy of the honor, and Souleymane received the most votes. Souleymane has earned the privilege to wrestle at the PIAA North East AAA Regional Tournament.
Souleymane is a senior at Overbrook High School and has wrestled all four years of his high school career. Souleymane is a scholar-athlete, currently holding a 3.78 Grade Point Average entering his senior year. Souleymane wants to attend Williamson College of Trade where he is interested in Masonry and plans on wrestling after he graduates from Overbrook High School in June.
