PPL Volleyball Championships: Northeast completes epic comeback to win championship

The 11-0 Northeast Vikings matched up against the 10-1 Central Lancers for the PPL Boys Volleyball Championship at Abraham Lincoln High School on Friday, May 19th.

The Lancers got off to a hot start, winning their first match 25-21 and setting the tone early. From there, the Lancers would blow out the Vikings 25-11 in their second “best of 5” match. With a 2-0 lead, a sizable margin in match 3, and the crowd on their side, it seemed that Central would go on to win the championship. Northeast was able to keep it close and etched out a 25-23 victory in the 3rd match.

The momentum then began to shift in the Vikings favor, as a back and forth match which a few incredible volleys ended in another Vikings win, 25-23.

Tied 2-2, the “first to 15” final match began with a dominant performance by Northeast which ultimately ended in a 15-7 win for Northeast as they completed the 3-game comeback to win the championship.

Sophomore, Gabriel Lima was named game MVP after his 25 dig performance against Central.

“Going into the first match, we weren’t playing our game. We all can play volleyball and we all have good chemistry” said Lima in regards to the teams early struggles. “Play our game, communicate, hype each other up, and we can win”
